[edit] Background

The Champaign Public Library’s website won the American Library Association’s 2007 national public relations competition “Best of Show,” the top award among libraries in its budget category. What makes the website more than just a pretty face is the targeted focus on specific services and information. The website is kept current by pulling dynamic content from various sources to refresh the library’s news, events, and special features blogs with the latest information. Targeting different library audiences, the library provides online homework help, sponsors teen events like the Battle of the Bands, features work by children and young adults, and matches library assistants with teachers. Through effective website design and services, the library is able to tailor content and services offered through the library to meet the specific needs of its patrons.
